Mendoza is the main wine region of Argentina, high-located at the foothills of the Andes. The two thirds of all Argentine wines are produced here. Uco Valley (in Spanish Valle de Uco) is the highest and closest to the Andes sub-region of Mendoza. The Luján de Cuyo Valley, where the premium Argentine wines are produced, has become a very popular wine destination in recent years. The fine white wines are produced in the cooler places where their grapes can be ripen slowly. Fleshy fruit red wines are made in warmer areas.
