Small in size but great in the quality of its white wines, the Alsatian vineyards produce more than 90% white wines. The names of the estates and the grape varieties with Germanic sounds will make you travel

The main grape varieties are: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Sylvaner...

 • BORDEAUX

Bordeaux, the world's best-known wine region, currently has 57 appellations and covers an area of 120,000 hectares which makes it the largest wine region in France. Thanks to its unique location we traditionally divide Bordeaux into the left and right banks. The dominant grape of the left bank (Médoc and Graves) is Cabernet Sauvignon, which accounts for up to 70% of production. The right bank is dominated by Merlot.

Thanks to the diversity of the local terroir, Burgundy wines are authentic, complex and elegant. Thus, no wonder that the world's rarest and most expensive wines come from this region. The prominent grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. There are others too, such as Aligoté, Gamay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc.

 • CHAMPAGNE

The wine region Champagne is located in the northeast of France. It is a landscape full of chalk hills. That's why its original Latin name campania means rolling countryside. The area is divided into four major regions: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, the Côte des Blancs and the Côte des Bar. According the wine law, Champagne wines can be made only from these seven grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Arbane and Petit Meslier.

 • LANGUEDOC

AOC Languedoc is the warmest wine region of France. The Mediterranean climate, fabulous aroma of garrigue and diversity of local soil, all this helps to create fruit-driven and full-bodied wines.

Among the most famous appellations: Corbières, Minervois, Faugères, Saint-Chinian. Traditional cultivated black varieties include Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Syrah. • PROVENCE

Provence is the oldest wine region of France. It lies next to the Rhone River on the west and borders the Côte d´Azur on the east. The region is strongly focused on the production of rosé wines, which account for 88% of all production.

Most reds and rosé wines are based on Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and tend to be blended with less known (authentic) black grapes.

White wines are mostly made from Ugni Blanc (also known as Trebbiano and it’s the most widespread variety in France), Clairette, Rolle (aka Vermentino) and Sémillon.

 • RHONE VALLEY

The Rhône Valley stretches from Vienne in the north to Avignon in the south. According to the varietal composition and diversity of the climate, the area is traditionally divided into Northern Rhône and Southern Rhône. AOC Rhône is famous for its complex red wines, but also it produces aromatic white, rosé and excellent sparkling and sweet wines.

The Northern Rhône is made up of a strip of steep hilly vineyards, has a continental climate and it's considered the birthplace of the powerful Syrah. The wines from the north are either varietal (Syrah is the only black grape) or blends using only few allowed varieties (such as Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne).

The Southern Rhône, flatter and warmer area, is much richer in cépage. A dozen varieties are grown here and are traditionally blended for local wine production.

The best known region of Southern Rhône is Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, which wines, with typical pepper aroma, are mainly made of Grenache, in addition to Syrah.

Since 2012, Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are allowed to be made of up to 18 authorized varieties.

 • SOUTH WEST

The South West of France, aka Sud-Oest, lies between Bordeaux and Languedoc-Roussillon regions. It covers some unique grape varieties and terroir.

AOC Cahors produces only red wines and it’s home to the popular variety Malbec (min. 70% of total blend), also known as Côt or Auxerrois. The Cahors wines are recommended to drink after being aged for 5-10 years. These inky, "black" wines of plum and tobacco notes ideally match with Southern French cuisine, red meat, and strong roquefort cheese.

The Gaillac region produces white, rosé, red and, only marginally, sparkling and sweet wines. White Gaillac wines are made from the local variety Mauzac, which is traditionally blended with Len de l’el. It’s perfect wine for fish dishes and fresh cheeses.
