France

French wines have become a symbol of top quality wines with tradition. France is the country where the term terroir and the appellation system were born. The broad variety of soil, diversity of wine styles and suitable climatic conditions have contributed to the creation of the most precious and also the most expensive wines. Exquisite wines from Champagne, classy aged Bordeaux or elegant wines from Burgundy have made France famous all over the world.

Subcategories

  • ALSACE
<p>Alsace is protected from rain and western winds by the Vosges Mountains. It's also one of the driest areas of France. According to the classic Alsatian wine law, only seven (mainly white) varieties can be grown here: Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir. Alsace wines are dry, deliciously aromatic and well balanced on the palate.</p>
  • BORDEAUX
<p>Bordeaux, the world's best-known wine region, currently has 57 appellations and covers an area of 120,000 hectares which makes it the largest wine region in France. Thanks to its unique location we traditionally divide Bordeaux into the left and right banks. The dominant grape of the left bank (Médoc and Graves) is Cabernet Sauvignon, which accounts for up to 70% of production. The right bank is dominated by Merlot.</p>
  • BURGUNDY
<p><span id="docs-internal-guid-19fa4b58-7fff-3445-5441-1bad959bb844"><span style="font-size:8.5pt;font-family:Verdana;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) made up of a complex mosaic of vineyards, known as </span><span style="font-size:8.5pt;font-family:Verdana;font-style:italic;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">climat</span><span style="font-size:8.5pt;font-family:Verdana;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">, clos and crus. Thanks to the diversity of the local terroir, Burgundy wines are authentic, complex and elegant. Thus, no wonder that the world's rarest and most expensive wines come from this region. The prominent grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. There are others too, such as Aligoté, Gamay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc.</span></span></p>
  • CHAMPAGNE
<p>The wine region Champagne is located in the northeast of France. It is a landscape full of chalk hills. That's why its original Latin name<em> campania</em> means <em>rolling countryside</em>. The area is divided into four major regions: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, the Côte des Blancs and the Côte des Bar. According the wine law, Champagne wines can be made only from these seven grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Arbane and Petit Meslier.</p>
  • LANGUEDOC
<p>AOC Languedoc is the warmest wine region of France. The Mediterranean climate, fabulous aroma of garrigue and diversity of local soil, all this helps to create fruit-driven and full-bodied wines.  </p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">Among the most famous appellations: Corbières, <strong><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/73-minervois-aoc-reserve-grande-tradition"><span style="color:#000000;">Minervois</span></a></strong>, Faugères,<strong> <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/75-saint-chinian-vieilles-vignes-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Saint-Chinian</span></a>. </strong>Traditional cultivated black varieties include Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Several <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/65-blanc-igp-peyriac"><span style="color:#000000;">white</span></a>, <strong><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/141-rose-gris-alcohol-free-00"><span style="color:#000000;">rosé</span></a> and <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/137-blanc-de-blancs-alcohol-free-00"><span style="color:#000000;">sparkling</span></a></strong> wines are also produced here.</span></p>
  • LOIRE VALLEY
<p><span style="color:#000000;">The Loire Valley lies south-west of Paris and Loire is the longest river in France. It's a region of magnificent castles, but also of high quality wines. Thanks to the huge soil mosaic and climate diversity, the region offers broad amount of wine styles. After Champagne, the Loire Valley is the second largest region with <strong><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/90-vouvray-brut-millesime-aoc-2016"><span style="color:#000000;">sparkling wine</span></a></strong> production in France.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">The predominant white variety is considered <strong><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/81-saumur-chenin-blanc-aoc-les-pouches"><span style="color:#000000;">Chenin Blanc</span></a>, </strong></span>which has been grown on the Loire since 9th century. White dry wines of the<strong></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><strong> <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/95-muscadet-sur-lie-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Muscadet</span></a> </strong></span>variety (or also known as Melon de Bourgogne), from the same appellation, became famous as a traditional aperitif and ideal wine to pair with fish and oysters. Sauvignon Blanc dominates the appellations such as Sancerre,<strong></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><strong> <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/94-pouilly-fume-aoc-les-vieilles-terres"><span style="color:#000000;">Pouilly Fumé</span></a></strong></span>, Menetou-Salon, Quincy and Reuilly. The prominent black grape is<strong></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><strong> <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/86-saumur-puy-notre-dame-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Cabernet Franc</span></a></strong>.</span></p> <p></p>
  • PROVENCE
<p><span style="color:#000000;">Provence is the oldest wine region of France. It lies next to the Rhone River on the west and borders the Côte d´Azur on the east. The region is strongly focused on the production of rosé wines, which account for 88% of all production.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">Most reds and <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/98-cotes-de-provence-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">rosé </span></a>wines are based on Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and tend to be blended with less known (authentic) black grapes.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">White wines are mostly made from Ugni Blanc (also known as Trebbiano and it’s the most widespread variety in France), Clairette, Rolle (aka Vermentino) and Sémillon.</span></p> <p></p>
  • RHONE VALLEY
<p><span style="color:#000000;"><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/26-rhone-valley"><span style="color:#000000;">The Rhône Valley</span></a> stretches from Vienne in the north to Avignon in the south. According to the varietal composition and diversity of the climate, the area is traditionally divided into Northern Rhône and Southern Rhône. AOC Rhône is famous for its complex red wines, but also it produces aromatic white, rosé and excellent sparkling and sweet wines.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">The <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/100-saint-joseph-terra-louis-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Northern Rhône</span></a> is made up of a strip of steep hilly vineyards, has a continental climate and it's considered the birthplace of the powerful Syrah. The wines from the north are either varietal (Syrah is the only black grape) or blends using only few allowed varieties (such as Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne).</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;"><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/103-cotes-du-rhone-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">The Southern Rhône</span></a>, flatter and warmer area, is much richer in cépage. A dozen varieties are grown here and are traditionally blended for local wine production.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">The best known region of Southern Rhône is <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/101-chateauneuf-du-pape-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Châteauneuf-du-Pape</span></a>, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, which wines, with typical pepper aroma, are mainly made of Grenache, in addition to Syrah.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">Since 2012, <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/102-chateauneuf-du-pape-aoc-fond-de-crau-"><span style="color:#000000;">Châteauneuf-du-Pape</span></a> wines are allowed to be made of up to 18 authorized varieties.</span></p> <p></p>
  • SOUTH WEST
<p><span style="color:#000000;">The South West of France, aka Sud-Oest, lies between Bordeaux and Languedoc-Roussillon regions. It covers some unique grape varieties and terroir.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;"><a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/106-cahors-malbec-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">AOC Cahors</span></a> produces only red wines and it’s home to the popular variety <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/106-cahors-malbec-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Malbec</span></a> (min. 70% of total blend), also known as Côt or Auxerrois. The <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/106-cahors-malbec-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Cahors wines</span></a> are recommended to drink after being aged for 5-10 years. These inky, "black" wines of plum and tobacco notes ideally match with Southern French cuisine, red meat, and <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/gourmet/142-strong-french-cheese"><span style="color:#000000;">strong roquefort cheese</span></a>.</span></p> <p><span style="color:#000000;">The Gaillac region produces white, rosé, red and, only marginally, sparkling and sweet wines. White <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/107-gaillac-sec-l-ombre-fraiche-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Gaillac wines</span></a> are made from the local variety <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/107-gaillac-sec-l-ombre-fraiche-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Mauzac,</span></a> which is traditionally blended with <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/wine/107-gaillac-sec-l-ombre-fraiche-aoc"><span style="color:#000000;">Len de l’el</span></a>. It’s perfect wine for fish dishes and <a href="https://vino-delikatesy.cz/en/gourmet/144-soft-french-cheese"><span style="color:#000000;">fresh cheeses</span></a>.</span></p> <p></p>
  • BEAUJOLAIS
<p>Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé! or New wine from Beaujolais has just arrived!</p> <p>Beaujolais nouveau is the most famous young wine in the world! It is a young, fresh wine with a typical violet color. Beaujolais nouveau wine comes from France, from the Beaujolais wine region. Its fruity character and typical color is made from the black variety called Gamay.</p> <p>These wines are traditionally and according to the Wine Act opened and drunk starting from the third week in November (not earlier!). That's why these wines are always available on the market only few days before the official opening, and they also sold out quickly!</p> <p>Thus, make a reservation for your Beaujolais nouveau on time!</p>
